A Muncie man has been preliminarily charged after he reportedly had sex with a child and touched her inappropriately on multiple occasions.
According to court documents, filed on Wednesday in Delaware County, 36-year-old Andrew Johnson has been preliminarily charged with three counts of child molestation, each a Level 1 felony.
On July 11, an officer with the Muncie Police Department conducted an interview with a 7-year-old who reportedly told the officer that she had been sexually assaulted by Johnson multiple times.
The child told police that this first started when she was a 6-year-old, stressing that it “would happen during the day and the night time every time she goes to his house.” The child reportedly said that the last time it happened was the weekend of the Fourth of July.
“(The child) advised Andrew would tell her, ‘when we get ice cream, you have to do this weird stuff,’” the documents said.
The child was also told by a family member to “‘keep it a secret so (Johnson) doesn’t get arrested,’” the documents said.
The documents said that Johnson was taken into custody on Tuesday. During an interview with Johnson, he denied all the allegations.
Johnson confirmed with police that the child had been at his house during the Fourth of July weekend. The documents said Johnson reportedly told police that he had accidentally touched the child inappropriately while he was washing her. Johnson also reportedly told police that while they “play, he licks her neck and then blows on it.”
“(Johnson) has two previous child offense convictions and was ordered to go to therapy as a sexual offender,” the document said. “(The officer) asked (Johnson) if that therapy worked, and he stated ‘no.’”
