The search is on for a former Greenwood man convicted of sexually abusing a minor.
On Aug. 7, jurors found David Bailey guilty of one count of sexual misconduct with a minor. It took them less than 40 minutes to return the guilty verdict. An investigation found the abuse happened between 2019 and 2021.
According to Johnson County Prosecutor Lance Hamner, Bailey failed to appear at the trial. Sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 6; Bailey will be convicted in absentia if he’s not apprehended before the hearing.
A judge has issued a no bond warrant for his arrest, Hamner said.
Bailey faces up to 12 years in prison, but the prosecutor’s office suggested missing the hearing would be an aggravating factor that could result in a longer sentence.
“I hope anyone who knows where Bailey is will assist Sheriff Duane Burgess and his team in bringing this convicted sex offender to justice,” Hamner said in a news release.
While Bailey is not believed to be armed, he should only be approached by law enforcement.
Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts should contact the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office at 911 or (317) 346-4654 (Crime Tip Line).
